@MustangBlueWy How old is he? I have one about the same size.
@HorseGirl we adopted him as a yearling...so best guess is a year and a half...
@HorseGirl of course, by 'horse age rules', all horses birthdyas are on Jan 1, which would make him 2 in a few days
@MustangBlueWy I wonder how that ever came to be. Kind of crazy if you ask me. And yes, I have one that will be 2, but how old really?
@MustangBlueWy mine is 17 months and just about the same size. I think he is small but the one in my picture was big, he'll grow soon.
@HorseGirl our boy is a BLM mustang, born in the wild, so there is no way 4 us 2 really know when he was born
@HorseGirl Spyder was 2nd to biggest of all the yearlings at the adoption..we're hoping he reaches 15+ hands
@MustangBlueWy many are born in Feb through May...but there are fall foals in the wild as well, just not as common
@MustangBlueWy I think my gray mustang was a fall foal because when I adopted him as a 2 yr stallion, only one testicle was down
@MustangBlueWy and didn't drop 'til a few months later...so I figured him at around 15 to 18 months
@MustangBlueWy to measure at the fetlock to the elbow and double it proves to be really accurate at the final height when mature.
@MustangBlueWy Mine when measured is right at 15 hands. The same mare had the paint, in pic, which is now 15.3, measurement was right on.
@HorseGirl I always hear it was from ground to knee in inches would equal hands at maturity...I need a tape measure for either though..
@MustangBlueWy keep forgetting to buy one, lol
@MustangBlueWy I'm pretty sure it's fetlock to elbow.....how bout it horse tweets, anyone out there know for sure?
@MustangBlueWy right at the farthest back rear tip of the fetlock to the tip of the elbow, double it and divide by 4.
